Are there side effects for hair loss medications?Updated 2 years ago

Side effects for minoxidil when used for hair loss treatments are uncommon, and in both cases any side effects will disappear once you stop taking the medication.

Minoxidil: in rare cases minoxidil can irritate the skin, making it red, dry, and/or itchy. Minoxidil can cause unwanted hair growth if it gets on other parts of the body.

Make sure not to accidentally get the product on your face. These solutions are very good at encouraging hair growth, so make sure you are not applying it anywhere you don’t want hair. Allow the solution to completely dry for 3 to 4 hours before going bed.

If any of these symptoms happen, book an appointment with our medical team and you may be prescribed a lower dosage.

Please note: sometimes people report increased hair shedding the first few weeks of treatment. Don’t worry, this hair loss is temporary and shows the medication is working.
